The new Pope shows himself to be consistent with predecessors who thought the earth was flat and was the center of the universe. Ignoring valid research, he apparently prefers to get his science from the Daily Worker.
Climate Change alarmists have been confounded by 20 year real world data yet remain undaunted, cranking out new theories to compensate for failed ones. Why? It’s political. The implementation of Climate policy promises the realization of a Socialist dream: 1) a massive economic hit on Capitalistic institutions 2) and a likewise huge redistribution of wealth through taxes and fines.
The irony is that through the millennia, the church was the scorned villain in every socialist uprising usually resulting in ransacked chapels and murdered priests (those not on-board).
From his encyclical:
“Climate change is a problem with serious implications for the global environmental, social, economic, distribution [systems] and policies and constitutes one of the main current challenges for humanity”
Yes, the Climate changes. And it’s a shame what it sometimes does. But is Man the culprit? Carbon dioxide makes up about .04% of the atmosphere. And man’s contribution is a less than 4% of that, what might be called a “trace element”. Some scientists have speculated about how the almost negligible amounts of the man-made C02 in the atmosphere are amplified to drive climate. But these theories are not confirmed by observed data. Recent sun spot cycles actually point to global cooling! Overall “a causal link between human carbon-dioxide emissions and accelerated warming has not been proved” *. Well, maybe we should act anyway …you know, regulate, ration, tax, and create an army of bureaucrats to get the job done … just to be on the “safe side”. This is the “Chicken Little” approach: When in doubt, panic!
Cost-Benefit Analysis, however, shows that the economic hardship wrought by planned regulations would create far more damage than simply dealing with whatever happens**. Christina Figueres who leads the UN effort to forge a new international climate treaty in Paris told reporters that the real goal is “to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years.” You go, girl! But she is not talking about Climate here, is she? She’s excited about Wealth Redistribution. So we’re back to Socialism, a not-so-well-thought-out-system that presupposes that the world’s wealth is a “zero-sum” game and that prosperity for one can only be gotten by taking it from someone else. …the big-government solution to the problems of the world. Since government creates nothing it wields power by moving around other people’s things.
So Pope Francis has met his dilemma and resolved it: If you can’t base your vision of Social Justice on the truth, will God not forgive a little lie?
